We purchased this property in January 2021- 13 acres of oceanfront jungle that had been abandoned for 6+ years. We’re in the process of renovating everything, and just finished renovating our 2 unit building in 2021. It’s basically a duplex. We live in one half and rent out the other to guests. Your unit has two large halves- one half has the kitchen/living area and bathroom and the other half has a large bedroom and closet. A long, screened in porch spans the entire front of the unit, so you can sit out and enjoy the sights and sounds (listen for the howler monkeys and potoo birds!) of the jungle while sitting in the shade.

It’s a short walk to our 450 foot long dock. You’ll wind through the mature mangrove forest before coming out to a spectacular Caribbean Sea view of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. You’ll see the mainland wind around to Tierra Oscura (the Darklands), Isla Pastore is directly across from us, and you can see Isla Cristobal a little further out. You can enter the water from our dock and immediately be snorkeling on our beautiful coral reef, or swim out just a few meters or so and be in deep water. You can also take out a kayak and explore the coastal mangroves and secret little offshore coral reef (about 1/4 mile out) that you will have all to yourself! There’s rarely any boat traffic here- we go days without hearing a boat. Just the indigenous people in their hand carved cayukos, slowly paddling by or fishing.

We have a large building over the water where we can hang hammocks and you can relax in the cool ocean breeze, looking out over what seems like a dream! If you’re lucky, you’ll even see dolphins! The day of the new moon and the 2 days before and after are very special here at Ojo Bio- you can swim at night in a sea of bioluminescent plankton!! This is a magical experience that you will never forget!

Our over the water buildings are still in the process of being renovated. So come with an open mind and an adventurous spirit!

You’re free to explore our 13 acre jungle property- complete with all kinds of mature landscaping, fruit trees, and even a cacao orchard (the tree that chocolate comes from!). A beautiful hiking trail winds through the “wild side” of our property, where we frequently see two and three fingered sloths (often with babies!).

We can wash your clothes and hang them on the line to dry for $5 per load or dry them in the dryer for an additional $5. We do not fold.

We prefer that you use UV protective clothing for swimming, but if you insist on sunscreen, it MUST be reef safe!!

We do NOT have air conditioning. We use ceiling fans and portable fans.

We are an off grid property, and ask that you conserve energy and water at all times.

This is NOT a touristy area! You won’t find hoards of tourists, loud restaurants and bars, boat traffic, grouchy expats, or souvenir shops! We are in a special little place, surrounded by nature and indigenous people. This is where you come when you want peace, quiet, solitude, and to feel like you are practically all alone in this amazing part of Panama! So if you need to be surrounded by tons of tourists, go out to dinner at a different restaurant every day, and/or party until dawn at the local bar- this is NOT the place for you!! Speaking of restaurants- the closest ones are in Almirante about 20 minutes away. These are restaurants for locals, so don’t expect fancy tourist fare! Small local-style grocery stores are also there as are some wonderful vegetable stands. Your unit has a full kitchen, so you can easily prepare meals yourself.
